label: Revelation
album: ”But the past ain't thru with us”
Curl Up And Die released their devastatingly popular debut on Revelation Records just over a year ago. They have since grown in leaps and bounds as a result of their non-stop tour schedule, and non-stop personalities. They have essentially won over mass allegiance by recruiting and converting one fan at a time. They've played everywhere from DIY halls to the biggest metal festivals. But the Past Ain't Through with Us is the companion release to the EP We May Be Through With the Past (Status). Recorded in Boston at God City Studios by Kurt Ballou (Converge) But the Past Ain't Through with Us provides the listener with Curl Up And Die's patented sound of thick, gut wrenching metal, 'calculus-core' thrash, angular post-rock and of course the ever so clever (and lengthy) song titles. Most impressive in this recording is how musically the band has progressed, especially the vocal performance. Up until this point, most suspected that Mike Minnick's vocals acted more as an instrument rather than actual 'singing.' Now the vocals are still raw yet moving. The 12 minute epic found at the end of the EP ("God is in his Heaven, All is Right With the World"), is hopefully the future of CUAD, regardless of what it represents, it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful songs to come out of hardcore, adding to what will be a must have release for everyone.
